Can I have a 401k as a small business owner?

Yes, but regular 401k’s have too many fees for most small businesses except solo 401k’s

What is a Solo 401k?

Like a 401k but company can only have one employee or two if the spouse is also an owner and employee. See our investments tab.

What plans are available to small businesses with multiple employees?

A common solution is often a Simple IRA plan.  Learn more about investments.

What is the maximum I can contribute to these plans?

Limits vary from plan to plan and are often larger for those over 50 years of age.  Learn more about contribution limits.

Can I contribute to more than one plan?  Or is there only one maximum per person annually?

Usually there is only one maximum for certain individuals such as 401k plus matching. Certain individuals can max out at 403b and 457 plus matching.  Learn more about contribution limits.

Can I combine my pretax plan with money I received from my inheritance or from my Roth plan?

No, you cannot.  Pretax (IRA, 401k etc) must be in a separate account from your after-tax accounts and may not be joint accounts.
